When the SRO program began in 1993, a video was created to explain what SROs
were and why the SRO program started. With that firmly established, the need for a new video focusing on the value of
the SRO program to schools and the community has been recognized by the North Carolina Association of School Resource Officers.
NCASRO has requested the help of the North Carolina Justice Academy in producing this video.
To that end, the video production unit is looking for stories from current or former
SROs to include in the video. We are looking for stories that really made a personal, group, or community impact, and
stories that changed the attitude of a student, parent, teacher or administrator toward law enforcement or, more specifically,
toward having an officer in the school. We are looking for stories across different communities in the state.
Taping would involve an interview with those involved in the
story, as well as some additional taping of them in the school environment, etc. You may be asked to help set up some
logistics for the taping.
If you have a story you that you would
like to submit, please describe the event in detail and email to Valerie Coffey at vcoffey@ncdoj.gov.
Your help is sincerely appreciated!
